Yemen Al Qafr Hawari
Single-Origin
Natural Process
Altitude: 1,700 - 2,000m
Light/Medium Roast
Tasting Notes: Dates, Molasses, Cocoa
Only offered in 12 oz. size
We’re super psyched to finally get some Yemen back in the shop! As with last year’s offering, this one is complex - we tasted dates, molasses, and a cocoa undertone. Beyond that, there are all sorts of little hints of spices, and the cup is enjoyable and retains an interesting profile even as it cools. Don’t be surprised if you taste something different each time you brew this one, it’s truly multi-layered.
This offering is also a continuation on our promise to source from female-owned or run farms/co-ops as much as possible. These lovely beans are brought to us by Fatoum Muslot, who runs the family coffee business that was started by her father in the 50’s. She works with area farmers to constantly improve their growing and processing practices, and promotes only using organic fertilizers.
As with pretty much all Yemeni coffees, expect tiny beans and uneven roasted color due to the rugged and arid landscape. While this coffee may look a little rough around the edges, you’ll find the reward is in the cup! The challenging growing conditions, paired with both ongoing civil and external armed conflicts make it a miracle that we even were able to get this!
